Our tour to the following countries was very good, we had a great experience.
Arrive in Banjul and transfer to the hotel.
We start our day with breakfast and setout to begin our tour of the city, Banjul. We will visit St. Joseph’s Adult Education & Skills Centre, Albert Market, Old Town for colonial history and architecture, Arch 22 (a Massive 36m gateway built to celebrate military Coup). During the night, we will visit a few musical concerts to experience the true Gambian life.
Today, again we leave much earlier, we have two borders to cross; we must go through senegal in order to get to the border of Guinea Bissau. Arrive in Bissau, a city uniquely different from all other with all of it’s taxis Mercedes, same color and same model. We head to the oldest part of town where our hotel and important administrative offices are located.
After breakfast, we have to make sure to be at the fishing port by 8am when the fishermen have all arrived to make business with the market women (a great site). After, we visit the Portuguese castle, the main port, the presidential palace, the colonial catholic church, the market etc.
At 11 am, we depart Bissau city to Gabu where we spend the night to get ready for border crossing in the morning.
After breakfast, we start our journey to the border, go through border formalities (1-2 hrs) and continue our journey to Labe. Countryside in this region is breathtaking. Watching out for cattles taking nap or relaxing in the middle of the street, we arrive in Labe in the late afternoon or early evening.
Labe is the capital city of Fouta Djallon, the region of Fulani people and the region’s largest market. Places to visit include Weaving Guilds, National Agriculture Center where we can find local potted honey for sale, the Market (where we can find professional shoemakers), and the Museum (a little one though).
From Labe we start our journey towards Mamou where we will take the main highway connecting the rest of the country with Conakry and head towards Conakry. Entering Conakry, we will branch off on the Boke highway to visit Soumba Waterfall (La Cascade de Soumba). From Soumba, we head back to Conakry straight to our hotel.
Conakry day tour begins with a visit to the National Museum, the Colonial Catholic Church, the Presidential Palace, the Large Madina Market, Le Mosque Fay - sal - the grand mosque of Conakry constructed by a Saudi King. Nightlife, we find a nice local musical concert or a nightclub to visit.
